We regularly need assistance from volunteers in producing messages from sponsors and messages for "KDHX Welcomes," which helps promote KDHX-sponsored and KDHX-friendly events.  Public Service Announcements (PSAs) are service messages, written by volunteers in KDHX format, from non-profit organization press releases and bulletin submissions.

Goal of Position: To create 30 second and 60 second recorded radio messages for broadcast on FM 88.1, including:  PSAs, KDHX Welcomes, and Underwriting announcements.

Current Number of Volunteers: Many

Positions Open: No limit

Sample Activities:

  1. Scripting -- using our computers and databases
  2. Narration -- or recording of others reading
  3. Audio engineering -- editing and mixing using ProTools software

Timeframe:

  • Length of commitment: Ongoing
  • Estimated total hours: 2 hrs/week

Scheduling:

  • At discretion of volunteer
  • Due to limited resources and the need for reservations, we request that volunteers pick a regular day and time to work each week
  •  

Worksite: KDHX Community Media at the Larry J Weir Center for Independent Media, 3524 Washington Ave.

Qualifications/Interest Sought (all training will be provided):

  1. Writing and verbal skills
  2. Computer skills
  3. Basic audio recording and ProTools editing
  4. Interest in helping to promote local civics and culture, while growing KDHX as an organization

Benefits:

  1. Increase public awareness of area culture
  2. Gain experience in writing for radio and on-air narration/announcing
  3. Gain experience with recording, editing and mixing techniques using ProTools software
