Breaking: Nick Acquisto and KDHX Release Space Parlour Live Series 2009

The Space Parlour, as host Nick Acquisto explained to me on air last week, is a radio show about songs, about the genesis of songs, a window into a parlour where the songs take shape – and the space surrounding that creation.

I’m not sure either one of us knows what that means.

The award winning show can be heard every Thursday night from 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm CST on 88.1 FM, and streaming worldwide @ kdhx.org. Nick is a charming, witty and generous guide to a strange and vast galaxy of emerging star-songs, some beautiful, some bizarre, all unpredictable. There’s nothing else quite like it on radio.

Hot off the presses is The Space Parlour Live in St. Louis Series 2009, a collection of songs, recorded live in the Magnolia Avenue Studios, by a bunch of fine Saint Louis artists, including So Many Dynamos, Pokey LaFarge, Kristeen Young, Glass Teeth, Tory Z. Starbuck, Paper Dolls and the Rum Drum Ramblers. The recordings sound fantastic, lovingly engineered and remixed by Ryan Greenlee, Dan Kinney, Jon Valley, Dominic Puleo and Andy Coco, with mastering by Brad Sarno.

Order a copy at the KDHX store today, or head out to one of three release parties at the Tin Can Tavern Downtown, the Library and Lemmons on August 7, 12 and 14. Admission is $10 (plus you get a CD) and all proceeds benefit KDHX Community Media.

Get all the details and line up for the parties here or visit myspace.com/thespaceparlour.

“THE GREASY POLE” IS BECOMING A FEATURE!

The Doc Challenge is often a launching pad for bigger projects. Many times, Doc Challenge filmmakers are so inspired and excited by their Doc Challenge experience and the resulting film that they go on to expand it into a feature-length film. This is the case with Team Gloucester to Gloucester Films and their award-winning 2009 Doc Challenge film, “The Greasy Pole,” which follows a unique sporting event in which walkers make their way through six inches of grease down a forty-foot telephone pole suspended over water. The film was the winner of the Documentary Educational Resources (DER) Award and, as part of the award, the filmmakers received distribution consultation, which resulted in the decision to make it a feature. Watch “The Greasy Pole” here.
