|The mission of KDHX is to build community through media, with diverse and independent voices that enrich the perspectives of our audiences. We promote civic and cultural participation by providing the tools, technology, and training vital to informed, creative expression.|
A panel of judges from a range of St. Louis-based interactive media outlets recently selected the KDHX Blog as Best Music Blog of 2012. Here’s what they said:
OK, it’s not really fair. KDHX (88.1 FM) has tremendous resources, including an army of volunteer writers and DJs and an in-house studio for shooting great live performances. But, hey, at least the radio station isn’t squandering its opportunities. Instead, it has made KDHX Blog the envy of any music site out there, with expert reviews and interviews of local and traveling acts, music downloads and a breadth of content as diverse as its over-the-air broadcasts.
Dozens of dedicated volunteer writers, photographers and DJs contribute to the KDHX Blog every month, and dozens more power all the music features, videos and live performance sessions you’ll find on KDHX.org. It’s a true community effort.
We thank each and every one of our volunteers, and thank you for reading, watching and listening to KDHX.org and the KDHX Blog. Independent music plays here — because of you.

The scientific study has yet to be conducted but odds are the first time you fell in love there was music playing — if not through a radio or an iPod, then surely in your head and heart. At 88.1 KDHX, we love music, and we love sharing it with you.
On this Valentine’s Day we’ve put together a playlist of 14 tracks, all recorded live in the Magnolia Avenue Studios of KDHX. We hope you’ll enjoy these songs of romance, passion, affection and that tingling feeling of when your heart skips a beat.
Fall in love with more music at the KDHX Soundcloud.
You wouldn’t know it from the SNOMG but spring really is just around the corner.
And that means Twangfest.
Presented by 88.1 KDHX, Twangfest will take place June 8-15, 2011. This is our 15th year as a grassroots, volunteer-based musical festival, so expect something pretty special (not that you had any doubts).
Check out the Twangfest audio and video page for full, streaming sets from all the bands from last year’s festival. Ray Wylie Hubbard, Detroit Cobras, Blue Rodeo and Jason and the Scorchers: It’s all there for your listening pleasure.
And finally, we’re gearing up for our annual SXSW day parties at Jovita’s in Austin. Dates are March 17 and 19, 2011. We’re beginning to lock down performers and it’s safe to say we’ve got some surprises in store.
Grammy-nominated bluegrass singers Dailey & Vincent were in town this past weekend for a show at the Sheldon. Keith Dudding, host of Down Yonder (every Saturday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Central on 88.1 KDHX), sat down with the two musicians to discuss forming the band, influences, vocal arrangements, the business of bluegrass and their recent tribute to the Statler Brothers.
The finalists for the Riverfront Times’ first annual St. Louis Web Awards have just been revealed, and the KDHX Blog has been recognized in the Best Music Blog category. Winner will be announced on January 25, 2011.
The KDHX Blog is a volunteer effort. Thanks to all the writers, photographers and DJs for their hard work over the last 2+ years.
See the full list of finalists here, and be sure to visit the other fine music blogs on the list. They’re all doing excellent coverage of music in the River City.
