To celebrate the anniversary City Diner is having a block party next to its Southside location.
Billed as City Diner's 20th Anniversary, a Retro Carnival. The event will start with family-friendly vendors, games, and dancing in the afternoon. At night the street will be transformed into a big retro dance party. Hosted by KDHX's Al Swacker, of Greaser's Lunchbox.
Kitschy goods will be available from the Saint Louis Curio Shoppe, Firecracker Press, Apop Records, Binge 'n Purge, MoModerne, Loopie's Market, Cheap Trix and more. The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis as well as the World Chess Hall of Fame will be bringing funky chess sets, including a giant one, to play on and providing lessons and matches to all ages. Brea Photography will be putting on a retro dress-up photobooth. Contests with prizes will be held: everything from hoola hoop competitions to biscuits and gravy eating contests.
Participants are encouraged to dress up in their best retro outfits. Freebies and gift certificates will be given to the best dressed. Some booze and drinks will be donated by Schlafly, Ronnoco, and Fitz's.
