Any list of truly great St. Louis musicians would be incomplete without John Hartford. The songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist and riverboat pilot is one of the defining figures of American music. His contributions to country, folk, rock and old-time music go far beyond his well-known hits. Hartford's catalog and influence are as wide, deep and strong as the Mississippi River he loved and knew so well.
