Honeysuckle Sweep Kickoff Event
Please join us in kicking off the Fall 2018 Honeysuckle Sweep Weeks! This event is free and open to the public. Allison Brown, Restoration Outreach Coordinator at Missouri Botanical Garden, will give a short talk on invasive Bush Honeysuckle followed by a half-mile restoration hike, which will highlight woodland areas that were once completely full of honeysuckle.
Bush honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii) is an invasive plant species that degrades woodlands, fields, and stream banks into impenetrable thickets lacking ecological, economic, or recreational value.
Participants will learn how bush honeysuckle critically damages the natural ecosystem and decreases human enjoyment and recreation in our green spaces. Informative discussions during the event will share methods for home and landowners to manage bush honeysuckle on their own property.
Please park in the Bascom House parking lot. Participants are encouraged to wear closed toed shoes for the hike and to bring a reusable water bottle to reduce waste.
The Fall 2018 Honeysuckle Sweep Weeks will be held October 27th through November 11th for the general public, conservation enthusiasts, schools and municipalities interested in removing invasive bush honeysuckle plants in the St. Louis region.
