Anthony Ray Hinton, “The Sun Does Shine: How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row”

2019 Black History Keynote Event

Oprah’s Book Club’s 2018 selection, “The Sun Does Shine” is a testament to the power of hope. In 1985, Anthony Ray Hinton was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder in Alabama. Hinton knew it was a case of mistaken identity and believed that the truth would prove his innocence. But with a different system of justice for a poor black man in the South, Hinton was sentenced to death. For the next 30 years he transformed his spirit, winning his release in 2015. Hinton’s memoir shows how you can take away a man’s freedom, but you can’t take away his imagination, humor or joy. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
