Science on Tap: How to Win the Lottery and Commit the Perfect Crime: Using Data to Your Advantage

For this January's Science on Tap seminar, we will be joined by Dr. Liberty E. Vittert, Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at Washington University. Using real-life examples and good old common sense, we will learn what questions we should be asking of data in order to spot the lies, damned lies, and statistics—with a little fake news thrown in for good measure. Data is our greatest strategic threat but also our greatest strategic opportunity. We live in a new world where numbers are everywhere and we collect more information than was ever thought possible. Numbers are more than just useful, they are essential. If you want to deliver real value to your company—and frankly, not be fooled in your personal life, as well—you must understand them.
