'Visual Perception & Art' Gallery Talk

Art is a most subjective topic. Your neighbor shows off a piece of art that you think is hideous. Or, you are stopped dead in your tracks by a painting that overwhelms your senses. Why do we respond to art the way we do?

What happens in our brains when we look at art? Do we see colors, shapes, patterns differently from each other?

Carl Bassi, Ph.D., will explore Visual Perception & Art in the February 20 gallery talk in the Webster Arts Center. The talk begins at 7 pm with a viewing of our current show, Open Theme Annual.

Dr. Bassi will discuss topics of color vision, contrast, depth perception, and visual illusions in conjunction with basic ways that the eye and brain work to perceive art and the world. He teaches at the University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry.

Expect to gain new insights into how you view art. The gallery talk is free and open the public. The Webster Arts Center is located on the lower level of Schultz Hall on the Eden Campus, corner or Lockwood and Bombart in Webster Groves. Enter the campus from the east entrance off Lockwood and follow the signs.
