Poetry at the Point - October 23 with Sarah Wilson, Alice Azure, and Eugene Budnitsky

POETRY AT THE POINT on October 23 will feature feature poets Sarah Wilson, Alice Azure, and Eugene Budnitsky. Poetry at the Point is held at THE FOCAL POINT in Maplewood on the 4th Tuesday of the month. This reading series invites local and regional poets, and established and up-and-coming poets to share their words. The event is free.

SARAH WILSON has authored 9 nonfiction books, appeared on PBS Nature, been quoted in Oprah, and is a writer for Parade Magazine.  Her poetry bio includes the standards for a poet: loved, lost, betrayal, forgiveness, reflection, wonder, left wondering. She sees herself as made tolerable by friends, having a constant sense of human, a level of resilience that came fully installed, and poetry, which never left her side.

ALICE AZURE’s poems have appeared in Yellow Medicine Review; Aazhoomom: Convergence, Indigenous Art Exhibition; Thinking Continental: Writing the Planet One Place at a Time; and Dawnland Voices 2.0. She recently launched a new poetry collection, Hunger Feast, hosted by the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian in Evanston, Illinois. Her chapbook, Worn Cities, received recognition by Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers & Storytellers. Wordcraft also recognized another of her collections, Games of Transformation, as the 2012 poetry book of the year. She has two earlier collections, Along Came a Spider (a memoir), and In Mi’kmaq Country: Selected Poems and Stories. More of her work is at www.aliceazure.com.

Along with many other Mi’kmaw artists, linguists, spiritual leaders, educators, lawyers, humanists, poets and writers, her work is archived at Tepi’ketuek, http://mikmawarchives.ca.

EUGENE BUDNITSKY was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. He lived and was educated in Russia, Canada, and the United States. Eugene’s many hats include those of an avid reader of poetry in five languages and a writer in two, a widely published translator, a digital humanist, and a data choreographer. Eugene divides his time between St. Louis and Toronto, Canada, when he is not traveling elsewhere.

The Focal Point is at 2720 Sutton.  Parking is free in the lot on nearby Marietta Avenue or street parking. Readings start at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments available at the Maya Cafe next door.
