Upcycled Log Cabin Quilt

Materials saved from the landfill:

fabric

Skills you’ll learn:

quilt design, piecing, tying and sashiko quilting

Warm your home with a handmade quilt!  Learn the log-cabin technique to reuse vintage and reclaimed fabric to construct a unique geometric quilt top.  In the first session, we will learn how to plan out your color scheme, cut fabric, and begin sewing your quilt top from the center of your quilt with a straight stitch. By the second session the quilt tops will be finished and the class will learn how to choose the correct batting for the inside of the quilt and back the quilt with a large piece of fabric. Also in the second session, the class will learn two quilting techniques (tying and sashiko), and begin quilting their layers together.  With the quilting completed by the third session, the class will learn how to make their own edging tape to give their quilt a finished look.

Participants will need to use some time outside of the class to complete steps of the quilt.  Students can attend Perennial’s Community Workshop for free in between sessions, where instructors and materials will be available.

Please note that this three-day workshop takes place on the following Tuesdays: February 28, March 7, and March 14 from 6:30pm – 9:00pm.

Last day to register: Thursday, February 23
