Poetry at the Point - April 24 with John Findura, Matthew Freeman, and Anna Guzon

POETRY AT THE POINT on April 24 will feature feature John Findura, Matthew Freeman, and Anna Guzon. Poetry at the Point is held at THE FOCAL POINT in Maplewood on the 4th Tuesday of the month. This reading series invites local and regional poets, and established and up-and-coming poets to share their words. The event is free.

JOHN FINDURA is the author of the poetry collection Submerged (Five Oaks Press, 2017). He holds an MFA from The New School as well as a degree in psychotherapy. His poetry and criticism appear in numerous journals including Verse; Fourteen Hills; Copper Nickel; Pleiades; Forklift, Ohio; Sixth Finch; Prelude; and Rain Taxi. A guest blogger for The Best American Poetry, he lives in Northern New Jersey with his wife and daughters.

MATTHEW FREEMAN's latest collection is called Trying to Take a Nap, and was written over the course of a week when the poet just couldn't fall asleep.

ANNA OJASCASTRO GUZON is a writer, teacher, mother, and former physician. In 2015, she co-founded YourWords STL, a non-profit that uses creative writing workshops, tutoring, and collaborative, interscholastic projects to help St. Louis youth amplify their voices. In 2016, the Regional Arts Commission granted her an artist’s residency at CIC@CET in the Cortex, where she continues her work as the Program Director of YourWords STL.

After earning a medical degree from the UMKC School of Medicine, she worked as a college anatomy and physiology instructor and high school biology teacher. She then earned a fellowship to and attended the New School Graduate Writing Program in New York City, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Poetry. Her work may be read in McSweeney’s, the Best American Poetry Blog, and Bone Bouquet, among other publications, as well heard in a recent episode of the Who Raised You? podcast. She is the author of two chapbooks, Eating the Net and A Butterfly’s Invitation.
