Poetry at the Point - August 28 with Tara Pedroley, Denise Baker, and Markie Jo Crismon

POETRY AT THE POINT on August 28 will feature feature poets Tara Pedroley, Denise Baker, and Markie Jo Crismon. Poetry at the Point is held at THE FOCAL POINT in Maplewood on the 4th Tuesday of the month. This reading series invites local and regional poets, and established and up-and-coming poets to share their words. The event is free. 

Tara Pedroley is a St. Louis poet. She took third place at the 2015 All Write Now Conference in Southeast Missouri, and has been published in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 Anthology through Saturday Writers, a local chapter of the Missouri Writer’s Guild. One of her pieces has been published in the first volume of The Tin Lunchbox, and she has won awards in the Arts Rolla 2017 Writing Competition. Tara loves children, and currently holds a degree in Early Childhood Education. 

Denise Baker is the author of the chapbook Eat the Apple. Her poetry has appeared in Bitter Oleander, Buddhist Poetry Review, Dunes Review, Whisper in the Woods,  and Branches. She has served as Managing Editor of Dunes Review, Editor of Labyrinth, Assistant Editor of Whisper in the Woods nature journal, Managing Editor of Indiana’s environmental magazine Monitor, and as Co-President of Michigan Writers. Denise is the drummer for Swampcat Holler and serves as Executive Assistant at Missouri Coalition for the Environment.

Markie Jo Crismon is a graduate student at University of Missouri-St. Louis in the creative writing program. She is bad about submitting her work and talks to her therapist about this. She has yet to write a poem about her cat. There is still time.

The Focal Point is at 2720 Sutton.  Parking is free in the lot on nearby Marietta Avenue or street parking. Readings start at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments available at the Maya Cafe next door.
