Poetry at the Point - February 27

POETRY AT THE POINT on February 27 will feature feature Robert Stewart, Pamela Garvey,  and Jim Hanson. Poetry at the Point is held at THE FOCAL POINT in Maplewood on the 4th Tuesday of the month. This reading series invites local and regional poets, and established and up-and-coming poets to share their words. The event is free.

The Focal Point is at 2720 Sutton.  Parking is free in the lot on nearby Marietta Avenue or street parking. Readings start at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments available at the Maya Cafe next door. ROBERT STEWART is editor of New Letters magazine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he also teaches writing, magazine nonfiction writing, and magazine editing. His books include The Narrow Gate: Writing, Art, & Values, Outside Language: Essays, and Plumbers: Poems. His poems have appeared in The Iowa Review, Denver Quarterly, Prairie Schooner and elsewhere.

PAMELA GARVEY is the author of the collection of poetry, Seven Miles Deep (Five Oaks Press, 2017). Her poetry, fiction and book reviews have appeared in Esquire, Missouri Review, Margie and many other journals. She is the author of two poetry chapbooks, Things Impossible to Swallow (2River Press, 2013), and Fear (Finishing Line Press, 2008). Garvey is professor of English at St. Louis Community College and is currently writing a full length play that will be produced at Meramec in February 2018.

JIM HANSON is a retired Senior Researcher at Southern Illinois University–Carbondale, where he worked and taught in community development. He has a doctorate degree in sociology and is a lay-ordinated Zen Buddhist. In past years he has published two books through Greenwood Publishing Group and numerous articles in social science and philosophy. His current interest is writing poems about death. He resides with his wife in Collinsville, Illinois.
