Robert Long Foreman & Amelia Martens sign and discuss “Among Other Things” & “The Spoons in the Grass Are There To Dig a Moat”

Left Bank Books presents author Robert Long Foreman, who will sign and discuss his essay collection, "Among Other Things," and poet Amelia Martens, who will sign and read from her poetry collection, "The Spoons in the Grass are There To Dig a Moat."

This event is free and open to the public, but proof of purchase of either "Among Other Things" or "The Spoons in the Grass are There To Dig a Moat" from Left Bank Books will be required to enter the signing line.

The essays collected in "Among Other Things" reveal the depth and significance of mundane objects—a puzzle, a skillet, an antique cannon, an avocado sandwich. With wry wit and insight, Robert Long Foreman examines small things close-up, casting his eye on what we have in our closets and on our shelves. With the personal and collective histories of everyday touchstones in view, the essays explore ancestry, inheritance, and the implications of ownership.

Amelia Martens's prose poems in "The Spoons in the Grass are There To Dig a Moat" reveal expansive ideas in compressed language. From the domestic to the geopolitical, from the mundane to the miraculous, these brief vignettes take the form of prayers, parables, confessions, and revelations. Intimate and urgent, Martens's poems are strange, darkly funny, and utterly beguiling.
