Jazz n' Tongues: The Art of Music and Poetry
The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Saint Louis University in collaboration with Nu Art Series presents Jazz n’ Tongues: The Art of Music and Poetry, a series focused on the indigenous American art form of Jazz, with poets highlighting the importance of free improvisation with the spoken words lending social, historic, and artistic context to the music.
The first performance, on Friday, October 26 and 8 pm, will feature internationally renowned trumpeter Eddie Henderson (NYC) with pianist Ptah Williams, trumpeter George Sams and poet/author Lyah Beth LeFlore reading the poetry of her mother, noted poet Shirley LeFlore. The event will be held on the campus of Saint Louis University in the University Theatre, Xavier Hall 3733 West Pine Mall, 63108.
