Poetiq
Jimia “Poetiq” Warren was born January 17, 1989 in St. Louis, MO. She began writing poetry at the young age of seven. Since then she has blossomed into a highly skilled artist. Not only did she produce poetry but the radio aided her in broadening her horizons to more complex forms of expressions.
Jimia began to dabble in neo-soul and R&B song writing with influences from Lauryn Hill and Floetry. Composing was next on her list to conquer. With a combination of her powerful instrumentals and captivating lyrics she formed her own personal sound and style of rap.
Subject matter was never an issue for Poetiq. Even at a young age inspiration came to her from real life experiences. Unlike many up and coming rappers, Poetiq didn’t stick to creating derogatory music. Poetiq describes as more of an EMCEE than a rapper who makes “everyday people music”.
She is a “backpack/ conscious” emcee with lyrics full of witty word play and depth. Outside of lyrical song-writing, Poetiq also plays the alto-saxaphone and piano referring to herself as the “Saxophone Emcee”
