Bob Dylan has been
approached many times by numerous people to cooperate in a filmic dramatization
of his life and career. But he has approved rights to his music and has given
his endorsement only to writer/ director Todd Haynes.
After discussions with
Dylan's oldest son Jesse and his agent Jeff Rosen, Haynes received Dylan's
endorsement for a remarkable proposal: a complex, elusive film which would cleverly,
inventively complement Dylan's multifaceted evolution without ever adopting fawning,
adoring attitudes. Though no doubt exists that Haynes' I'm Not There presents Dylan, his name is not used and he's not
seen until the final moments. Moreover, six different actors play the central
