Harvest Sessions: Elsie Parker & The Poor People of Paris (Aug 2007)
| Harvest Sessions: Elsie Parker & The Poor People of Paris (Aug 2007) |
An installment of the international concert series took place Saturday, August 25 and featured Elsie Parker and The Poor People of Paris. The songs ranged from soft folk to jazzy carbaret numbers, however, they all shared the fact that Parker sings them in French. The performance took place at the West Pool Pavillion in Tower Grove Park from 10:00 a.m. until noon during the Tower Grove Farmers' Market .
Elsie Parker is gaining a great reputation and following for her work, often being compared to legendary French singer Edith Piaf. Her success lead her to appearing on French television to rave reviews and finishing two CDs entitled Entre Nous (Between Us) and Elle se souvient (She Remembers). There was no problem if you didn't speak French, her music was complimented as being accessible to non-speakers as well. This international concert series performance also coincided with Festival of Nations also taking place in Tower Grove Park. The Harvest Sessions Concert Series is sponsored by KDHX Community Media, The Whitaker Foundation and Tower Grove Farmers' Market. Concerts take place each Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until noon during the Tower Grove Farmers' Market at the West Pool Pavilion in Tower Grove Park. Harvest Sessions includes an international concert series, which takes place the thrid Saturday of each month, and a childrens' concert series that takes place the first Saturday of the month. Harvest Sessions' concert series reflects KDHX 88.1 FM’s diverse on-air sound, and their commitment to working with local artists to present a range of styles and genres of music.
