If the Scottish invasion is going to last, it needs more bands like the post-punk and hook-smart We Were Promised Jetpacks.

Formed in 2003 in Edinburgh, the band gained the support of fellow Scots Frightened Rabbit while developing its own surging, guitar-stacked take on the post-hardcore of Fugazi or even Explosions in the Sky. There's drama in WWPJ's music, but also a sincere emotional core.

The quartet of Adam Thompson (vocals, guitar), Michael Palmer (guitar), Sean Smith (bass) and Darren Lackie (drums) is currently touring the states behind its second album, "In the Pit of the Stomach."

For this Live at KDHX session, singer and songwriter Adam Thompson plays three songs, solo acoustic: "Human Error," a tune from "In the Pit," begins with the line "If I was a writer," a line the rest of the song answers (he is); "This Is My House, This Is My Home," from the 2009 debut "These Four Walls," winds gently through melancholy; and finally "Pear Tree," another new song, overcomes its existential dread and weariness with metaphors of the intimate, improbable connections that carry us through the journey.
