With his tough persona and unfettered lyrics, frontman AJ Eason might be considered the bad boy of G.E.D. Records, the soul stable to which he belongs. The Memphis, Tenn. native brings his raw vocal styling to other in-house groups, including the Coolin' System, and makes for an edgy counterpart to fellow G.E.D. frontman DeRobert of DeRobert and the Half-Truths who performed a Live at KDHX session the same day.
AJ and the Jiggawatts share band members with DeRobert's group and for their recent Live at KDHX performance a small horn section added an extra kick into the funky fray as they performed a couple of new burners. In just three songs the band covers tales of getting boozy plus a weed deal gone wrong after facing desperate measures, all of it cascading over punchy riffs.
Eason always gives listeners a straight shot of reality in a style he serves well chilled and the band gets a little fuzzier and grittier once they've become the Jiggawatts. It might be after-hours at G.E.D. records, but you'll always get the purest grooves.
Do you hear that? AJ and the Jiggawatts are ushering you into the back alley to forget your old troubles and find some new ones.
Can you dig it?
