With a piercing but playful voice that recalls Ani DiFranco and a lyrical style all her own, Anna Vogelzang makes indie folk music with an adventurous touch.

A Boston native now based in Madison, Wis. Vogelzang has logged thousands of miles touring over the last four years, and her latest album, "Canary in a Coal Mine," demonstrates those road-tutored skills. Vogelzang is by turns observant ("Heart Beat Faster") and deeply personal ("Die Trying") and manages to pull off the outsider troubadour stance while still preserving a sense of pop appeal. As the Huffington Post put it: "The Wisconsin troubadour has a penchant for playfulness when it comes to her music; however, when she gets serious, few craft a better folk song."
