About this Media...

  • Date Recorded: February write an essay 26, 2011
  • Artist / Band: Bawn in the Mash
  • Hosting Show: Down Yonder
  • Sound: Dan Kinney

Call it bluegrass, newgrass, jam grass or even mash grass, just don't call Bawn in the Mash late for the pickin', swinging and experimenting party.

Some acoustic bands bend the rules of old time American music; this Kentucky band smashes the rules to pieces, combining everything from xylophone to electric guitar to saxophone to synthesizers to computer loops. For its Live at KDHX session, the band stayed more on the acoustic side of its sound, demonstrating a command over gypsy jazz and traditional fiddle music, and even sneaking in a telling Jimi Hendrix quote on the epic pastiche "Little Piece of Paper."
