Locked in an eternal summer, the music of Best Coast can halt the procession of time and season, if only for a few songs.

Consisting of Bethany Cosentino (vocals and guitar) and Bobb Bruno (various instruments), the California-based pop band has received a lot of attention and acclaim in a career that's barely two albums old. Perhaps that's because the band's music hits a sweet spot with listeners, somewhere between fresh and nostalgic.

In the songs on their recently released record, "The Only Place," you'll hear surf pop romanticism, modern detachment and both the carefree and listless sides of youth. And it's all cast in fuzzy, sepia-toned hooks and the mile-away wail of Cosentino. When bathing in the sunburned haze of Best Coast's sound, we're all Californians.
