Formed in 2005 by Israel Nebeker and Ryan Dobrowski, the band has an earthy, honest quality, incredibly sincere without ever being cloying or self-indulgent. The band's first album, "3 Rounds and the Sound," was a surprise hit in 2008, reaching #13 on the Billboard Top Digital Albums chart, but constant touring -- sometimes by bicycle -- and a patient approach to recording kept the band from releasing a followup until this year. But "We Are the Tide," with its cohesive, live-band sound and maturing songwriting has been worth the wait.
For this Live at KDHX session, Blind Pilot performs three songs from "We Are the Tide"-- "White Apple," "Keep You Right," and "Half Moon" -- in a spare fashion -- just voices, guitar, banjo and mandolin -- that illuminates just how fine Nebeker's songs can be.
