The Helio Sequence's ambient sound is even more abstracted on its most recent album, "Negotiations," completely written, recorded and produced by the band -- singer-guitarist Brandon Summers (who represented the band for this Live at KDHX session) and drummer-keyboardist Benjamin Weikel. Playing together since 1996, they developed their sound experimenting in their practice space/studio. After a flood destroyed their previous practice space, the pair settled into a larger, more secluded space that allowed them to work with more flexible hours and a larger array of gear.
In their new studio, Summers and Weikel embraced vintage equipment and instruments and spent time working with a more spontaneous and varied songwriting process. This process lead to some of their dreamier songs, their freer approach to writing ultimately focused by attention to detail in arrangement and production.
