St. Louis' garage pop duo, Bruiser Queen, sounds like a '60s girl group, except with only one girl. And, well, a guy.

With Morgan Nusbaum on guitar and vocals and Jason Potter on drums, the band's style is reminiscent of Liz Phair's early work: spare, a bit pugilistic, but still very melodic.

The band formed in 2010 and released two EPs on their own before issuing their first full album, "Swears," and a video for "I'm Yours" in 2012. Later that same year, the duo brought back both a 7 inch single and another EP from a recording session in Memphis, and released another video for "In Your Room." The band has returned to 5 and Dime Studios and is currently working on their next full album, slated to be released in the spring of 2014.

The White Stripes opened the door wide for bands whose members can be counted on two fingers, and now, with the popularity of bands like the Black Keys, the Ting Tings and Phantogram, the possibilities are endless for bands with talent and songwriting skills such as Bruiser Queen.
