Charlie Hunter has a talent for composing music with the song in mind, usually playing the bass, rhythm and lead guitar parts simultaneously while accompanied by drums and horns. Hunter is best known as a jazz player, but he's made forays into hip hop and rock as well. Although he's good enough merely to flaunt off his skills, he takes a laid-back approach to his songs instead of letting one aspect of the music overshadow the others.
As a sideman, Hunter has played with the likes of the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, Les Claypool and Coalition of the Willing as well as founding the jazz fusion groups Garage-A-Trois and T. J. Kirk. Hunter is currently touring in support of Public Domain, a solo recording that features his renditions of 17 songs chosen by his grandfather.
