When Chris Mills sings, he really sings, with a deep yearning and a perfect amount of imperfection, and lyrics that reflect an authenticity that could only be the result of nearly 20 years of ups and downs as a singer-songwriter.

Mills grew up in Collinsville, Ill. and released his first EP in 1996. He has put out seven full-length albums since, the most recent, "Alexandria," regarded by critics as one of his best. The songs aren't glitzy or glamorous, but they are consistently sturdy, scruffy and heartfelt. Mills is the kind of singer who sounds like he knows what he's doing, cutting to the chase in his songwriting, and armed with only a guitar so the emotion can really stand out.
