Chuck Mead was co-leader of the Nashville alt-country act BR549, a band known for their mastery of the older styles of country music. He continues in the tradition of Bob Willis and Hank Williams with his solo work, backed by the Grassy Knoll Boys.
Like all great singer-songwriters, Mead has a penchant for telling tales that seem both larger than life and completely plausible at the same time. Drummer Martin Lynds and bassist Mark Miller add vocal harmonies while keeping the beat bouncing along, while pedal steel master Carco Clave slinks and slides around like he's rafting down a river of mercury. Listening to Chuck Mead and His Grassy Knoll Boys is like reading a well-crafted novel; the characters and events come to life as if you were witnessing the tale in person.
