Woolf's voice is a singular country experience in itself. Sounding like Nanci Griffith after assertiveness training, singing original melodies that echo Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris, she simply sounds like the hills that are such a part of her history.
Woolf was born in Arkansas and raised in the Ozarks where she came to find a following playing her original tunes. Woolf met and married the talented Bilyeu who add immeasurably to the sound which is a bit like Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings but without the dissonance.
All three songs are from the 2013 album "May" and are very true to the sound of the record. This is roots music from hollers deep and insular; it is sweet, intimate and thoroughly American.
