Ryan Howard and Fred Thomas are a two-man outfit capable of producing a surprisingly full sound. The gently hypnotic ambience of City Center obscures a deceptively complex layering of hazy vocals, thick percussion and samples of found sounds. Often alternating between quiet meditative moments and majestic crescendos, the group grounds their work with a light, almost pop sensibility that bleeds through as an unrelenting sense of uplift. The prolific group just finished a long tour and is in the studio this summer working on a new full length album on the Captured Tracks label.
