Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, like Blanche DuBois before them, has depended on the kindness of strangers, catching fire on the Internet, rather than through traditional record company marketing, at a time when that just wasn't done.

The band's 2005 self-released, eponymously titled album was enormous. Building support and sales through word-of-mouth and shares online, and gaining early support by famous strangers like David Bowie and David Byrne, who were both seen attending CYHSY shows in 2006. A lot has changed since those days and a lot hasn't.

The touring band that came to our studios for this live performance has only one thing in common with the band that made that first album: Alec Ounsworth, the principal songwriter and founding member. The band's new release, "Only Run," feels different in that it is more ethereal, and perhaps darker, than earlier work, but that may capture the zeitgeist of current times as much as did the initial album in 2005.

The three songs in this session are all from the new album and show a band for whom much has changed, and yet much has stayed the same.
