Dubtonic Kru kicks off summer with a righteous display of why they won “Best New Band in the World.”

If you, like the 10cc lyric, don’t just like reggae, but love it, this may a band for you. What is it about reggae that makes you want to get the sun on your face?

These guys, Jamaican natives all, are the real thing. They won the title above in the 2011 Global Battle of the Bands in Malaysia, and it shows on this slick sounding Live at KDHX performance.

The band was founded by Deleon "Jubba" White and Strickland "Stone" Stone, providing the mesmerizing bass and drum riddims, while guitarist Jallanzo provides guitar sounds smoother than river-beaten stones. Kamau mans the percussion and Luke Dixon plays keyboards. But the dual vocals of Kamau and Jallanzo do a lot to make this group sound fresh.

The lyrics are thought-provoking and the groove is infectious. The first days of summer were the perfect time for this three-song set of songs from the band’s 2013 release “Evolution.”

Listen and start looking for that sunscreen you know you bought last year. You’re going to need it.
