The West Coast group has been on the music scene since 2008, but gained notoriety after performances at the 2010 SXSW festival. The Girls' music is comprised of evocative tones produced by electric guitar, bass and laidback alto vocals from lead singer Dee Dee Penny. Through the years Dum Dum Girls has released an EP and a full-length album. Their lastest release, He Gets Me High, features 3 original tracks as well as a cover of the Smiths "There is a Light that Never Goes Out." For this venture the band elicited the help of producer Richard Gottehrer. Gottehrer, who has worked with Blondie and the Go-Gos, produced Dum Dum Girls’ first album as well. On the whole the blaring guitars and upbeat tempos give a nod to the simpler sounds of classic punk but also pop music.
