Fat Tramp Food Stamp is a metal shredding biker rock band with country twang courtesy of its St. Charles, Mo. roots and beards courtesy of ZZ Top. Fire up the banjos and bang your heads to their live session at KDHX.

The band describes its sound as "Tom Waits meets Scooby Doo, with a little Johnny Cash and Slayer," and that's not far off the mark. The sextet isn't the first band to cross metal with twang, but they do so with genuine affection -- and surprising skill -- for both sounds.
