Founded in 2008, the band released its debut album, Weathervanes, last March. Publicity surrounding the pop band sparks a discussion about a promising future as much as a vibrant present. Although its music may not yet be classified as visionary, it is certainly visual. If The Royal Tenenbaums released a soundtrack with additional songs, if Noah Baumbach wanted inspiration for writing another independent film, if Honda created a commercial marketing a new green objective by filming car parts growing out of tree trucks synchronized with delicate harmonies, Freelance Whales would be on speed-dial. The band will be performing a few times in nearby cities over the next two months, including Lollapalooza (Grant Park, Chicago) on August 8, 2010.
