With a percussive guitar attack and a breathy, vulnerable delivery, Gina Holsopple is carving out her own niche in the contemporary folk scene.
Though Holsopple has left behind her Mennonite upbringing in Kansas, the younger singer and songwriter still has a firm spiritual bent to her music, even as she has established herself on the New York anti-folk scene.
For this Live at KDHX session, Holsapple performs two songs from her most recent album, "From the Earth" -- "Old Pine Tree" and "From the Earth" -- and also revisits an older song, "Love Letter," with poignant persuasion.
