In the case of this Montreal-based band, however, vocalist and guitarist Dan Boeckner can leave the angst behind in the lyrics, as his wife, Alexei Perry, contributes beautiful beats, creating a sound that's at once pensive and electrifying.
Both artists have multi-faceted careers: Boeckner's vocals will sound familiar to fans of Wolf Parade (his other band, currently on hiatus), while Perry, a short story writer, gave the band its name, based on a piece she was composing at the time. Their songs evoke a recollection of moments when one realizes that all is, in fact, not well.
Since being signed to Sub Pop in 2006, the group has produced three full-length albums, the latest of which, "Sound Kapital," was released on June 28 of this year. Currently touring the states, Handsome Furs will be at Off Broadway on August 24.
