A set of drums. A guitar. A two piece hillbilly rock music machine driven by whiskey drinking, lyric slinging cowboys. That's the Hooten Hallers, and they performed live in the KDHX studios.

John Randall and Andy Rehm are the Hooten Hallers; they make music for, as their Myspace headline declares, "sissies and squares." Their tone carries a raucous swagger reminiscent of stage hounds at an old country road house, though they hail from the Missouri college town, Columbia. Their single "I Been Bad" yelps, "Loving you baby was a mortal sin / now ol' Saint Peter won't let me in / I been bad." Another ditty, with a Ballroom Blitz-ish intro, "40oz to Memphis" captures their dirty rock 'n' roll roots and shows off their brash country attitudes.

Listeners, do not question if driving drunk to Memphis is wise, or if running out of alcohol to be left only with a bag of weed is a dire situation; acknowledge instead that those miles of inebriation represent 40 ounces of the Hooten Hallers' dirty country poetry. The boys hooted and hallered in Columbia at the Blue Fugue in February 2009.
