Mayfield found her voice at an early age, beginning with her childhood involvement in her family’s bluegrass band. Hailing from Kent, Ohio, she was discovered by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and appeared on that band's 2007 album Attack & Release. Auerbach subsequently produced Mayfield’s freshman and sophomore albums, With Blasphemy, So Heartfelt and Tell Me, recently released on Nonesuch.
Mayfield’s often upbeat instrumental arrangements are a minimalist confluence of blues, country and folk, led by her smoky but gentle voice. In the past years, the young singer and songwriter has been rising to success, touring with the Black Keys and recently receiving accolades such as a track on the Starbucks Sweetheart album, notice from the National Public Radio and Vogue Magazine and showcases at the South by Southwest Festival.
