Pug's musical style surfs along the genres of indie, folk rock and Americana. While his impressive acoustic-guitar picking is prevalent throughout all of his records, the accompaniment changes amongst his songs, including his voice alone or backed by a full band of appealing instruments. The harmonica melodies fill the air with heart and soul and carry a welcoming peace with them.
An electric guitar adds periodic texture on some tunes, while other instruments -- including banjo, piano and slide guitar -- expand the rock perimeters elsewhere. Pug delivers his vocals well and could be described as a blend of Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Robert Earl Keen -- in other words, smooth and cool.
Pug began his early recordings in Chicago and later moved to Austin. His national success partially stems from inviting his fans to share his music freely. His second full-length record, "The Great Despiser," was released earlier this year and features several accomplished musicians.
