The St. Louis-based quintet illuminates and sympathizes with the seedier side of life, with those not often written about or cared about. In a way that's very Tom Waitsian -- making the sordid seem human, and sometimes even beautiful -- Kentucky Knife Fight builds songs from a barn full of styles -- blues, bluegrass, punk and rock 'n' roll -- which were each created by the types of characters that they sing about.
Kentucky Knife Fight has forged a reputation as a hard-working band through frequent stints on the road and performances that maintain a Zen-like balance between tight and ruthlessly ragged, grating and glorious. For this live session, the band performed both songs from their recently released seven-inch record, "Misshapen Love b/w Love the Lonely," alongside an unreleased tune, "Paper Flowers Pt. 2."
