During her youth in the greater Chicago area, Kristine Flaherty connected with music early on, immersing herself in her father’s classic rock collection and letting loose to the sounds of P-Funk. Life gave her the opportunity to attend Stanford University, and in her sophomore year, she started making music for hobby with the help of a nearby friend that produced house music. Her escape from the rigors of a top school blossomed into performances, and has grown into a career, while she grabbed degrees in psychology and sociology along the way.
K.Flay serves as a producer, lyricist and vocalist in all of her releases and tours. She blends the sounds of samples and mash-ups with her own electronic loops and sequences, often charged by heavy bass and shredding guitar licks, to create a style that’s both innovative and dynamic. A capable vocalist, she mingles melodic verse and hooks with flowing, intelligent rap, often demonstrating a talent to handle a very quick pace, which she likens to stuffing words into a vacuum seal suitcase.
She stopped by the Magnolia Avenue studios of 88.1 KDHX, before a performance at Blueberry Hill, while on her "Eyes Shut" tour, promoting her newest EP of the same name.
