The son of legendary producer Jim Dickinson, Luther formed NMA with his brother Cody in 1996, immediately drawing comparisons to the Allman Brothers and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. But over the years, from Shake Hands With Shorty (the band's 2000 debut) to Keys to the Kingdom (its 2011 release), the band has moved to the vanguard of the new electric blues, obliterating festival crowds with stormy jams and chilling individual listeners with spare, vigorous, acoustic, country-influenced tunes. During this Live at KDHX set, Dickinson focuses on the latter; the results -- intimate and unpretentious -- speak volumes about his personal vision of the deepest of American musical traditions.
