Rowland started the band in 2005 with Joe Winters on percussion and Steve Ranney on bass. At the time, the three were students at the University of Missouri-Columbia, but since then they've left the halls of academia behind and have become a regular fixture on the St. Louis music scene.
Their sound combines elements of jazz, blues, funk and rock -- think Stevie Ray Vaughan meets Stevie Wonder, with a dash of Curtis Mayfield tossed into the mix. Deep grooves, tight vocal harmonies and guitar work that ranges from mellow acoustic strumming to stuttering rhythm licks to stinging single-note leads. You could call it fusion, but you probably shouldn't. Like the band says on its Facebook page: "There's more to music than what's on the radio."
