About this Media...

  • Date Recorded: October 11, 2010
  • Artist / Band: Menomena
  • Hosting Show: Gold Soundz
  • Sound: Dan Kinney
  • Video: Paul Oyrem

Menomena creates the musical equivalent to a filmmaker’s cinematic montage. The band's songs are full of expansive textural layers and deep atmospherics that blend together in a chaotic yet pleasingly melodious harmony. The resulting sound is huge: Synthesizers, guitars, piano, percussion, saxophone and loops all merge together, conjuring to the mind something dark yet playful.

The band members reside in Portland, where they create their inventive and unconventional tunes. The musicians have their hands full live as they each play a number of instruments at any given time. At times while listening to its latest album, Mines, you might anticipate a large ensemble on stage, yet these three tech-savvy gents (joined live in 2010 by Joe Haege of Tu Fawning) handle the multi-tasking duties just fine by themselves.
