Despite being rather experimental in the nineties with Soul Coughing by mixing novelty rock songs, hip-hop beats and general strangeness, Doughty has since revisited those same songs with his signature muted and percussive acoustic guitar.
Soul Coughing tunes like "Super Bon Bon" and "Circles" are given new life in these sparse arrangements. His songs, lyrics and deadpan vocals are complimented by acoustic guitar strumming that is beyond economical; in fact, where the echoes of his percussive palm muting ring out longer than the notes themselves. The direct and simple application is just what these songs needed to make them new again.
