While often compared with post-punk, proggy rockers the Dismemberment Plan or Coheed and Cambria, Minus the Bear has always had a winning sense of humor and a funk band's attention to danceable rhythms -- even when those rhythms veer off into higher mathematics. OMNI, the Seattle band's seventh album in 9 years, may be its most accessible. Drum machines hook up with live percussion, syths bubble along with zippy guitar licks, and the melodies have a lighter, airy quality that makes them both hummable and intricate. Minus the Bear appeared at the Firebird on July 12, 2010.
