In the late '90s, brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson formed the Allstars and have since paved their way with roots-driven jams and blues-inspired riffs. The pair owes much of their sound to growing up in Memphis, Tenn., a region teeming with music history and influence, including that of their late father, Jim Dickinson.
Although the Dickinson brothers carry on a tradition based in the blues, their sound evolves and branches out to include a wide range of styles. Luther Dickinson moves from funky guitar licks to fuzzy slide in addition to playing some Delta-fabulous instruments made from cigar boxes and oil cans, and Cody's driving drums give the group a contemporary edge along with a well-honed set of pipes to accompany his brother's lead vocals.
The group's seventh and latest album, "World Boogie Is Coming," includes classic blues covers as well as original material that the group brings to life with an unmistakable passion. Bassist Lightnin' Malcom joins the All-Stars as they perform songs from their new album at KDHX studios. Grab a sweet tea and have a listen.
